Xerox Weigh In Behind On Demand Books’ EBM With Technical & Global Strategy

Xerox has formed a worldwide agreement with On Demand Books, the company who developed and patented the Espresso Book Machine (EBM). The new partnership will provide global sales and marketing for the Espresso Book Machine, now integrated with the Xerox 4112 Copier/Printer. This enhanced book solution will now be capable of printing, binding and trimming a 300 page paperback with full colour cover in less than four minutes and the capacity to produce more than 40,000 units per year. The announcement of the partnership follows several months of negotiations between Xerox and On Demand Books.

“Xerox is a natural fit for On Demand Books and the Espresso Book Machine. Their solutions, industry leadership, innovative printing technology and worldwide sales and marketing footprint will help us reach our goal – providing book enthusiasts fast and affordable access to millions of digital titles in multiple languages.”

Dane Neller, CEO, On Demand Books

The Espresso Book Machine uses EspressNet, a software system that connects the device to a network of 3.3 million titles obtained with the approval of publishers worldwide. This assures the security of publishers’ titles, tracks all print jobs, and provides payments to publishers. The Espresso Book Machine is already in use around the world in libraries and bookstores, including Blackwells bookstore in London last summer. The enhanced Xerox powered Espresso Book Machine has already begun a phased global launch in North America.
