Wattpad Partners with Sourcebooks

wattpadToronto-based Wattpad, one of the largest reading and writing communities in the world, continues to forge links with traditional publishers. Earlier this month Wattpad teamed up with romance publisher Harlequin for the 2015 So You Think You Can Write (SYTYCW) contest.  And for the second time in two years it has partnered with USA independent publisher Sourcebooks. Previously, in 2013, Wattpad agreed a deal to publish its writers through Sourcebooks’ Fire YA imprint and market Sourcebook authors through their online community. This time Wattpad has teamed up for a submissions partnership program so its users can submit their work to Sourcebook editors through the Wattpad platform.

Wattpad has become something of a thriving talent feeder for publishers and literary agents, particularly for authors writing in the young adult genre.

More than 40 million people have joined Wattpad since it was founded in 2007. The writing and reading community is used by people to connect with each other while they discover and share millions of free stories. The community caters for more than 50 languages and story content can be read or written from any phone, tablet or computer.

From the Wattpad website:

Hi, In case you haven’t met us, we’re a book publishing house based outside of Chicago. We publish all kinds of great stuff, including authors who got their start on Wattpad. Natasha Preston (natashapreston) and Ali Novak (fallzswimmer) joined the Sourcebooks family 2 years ago and have both seen awesome success. We also have Estelle Maskame (EstelleMaskame) and Kara Terzis (Kara writes) with books coming out with us soon!

Now we are trying something new and awesome. Up until now, if you wanted to submit your book to a publisher, you would usually need to write a query letter, mail or email in your submission, wait to hear back, maybe you’d need to find an agent—but no more!

Now you can submit your story to us just by tagging your story on Wattpad, and we will be in touch if we are interested in talking with you about publishing your book. Use the tag submit2sourcebooks on your story and we’ll take a look.

Right now we are considering adult romance, new adult romance, and new adult fiction. If you write any of those things, we would love to hear from you! Tag your story and we will take a look.
