The Domino Project Announces: “Poke the Box”

Press release:

Bestselling author and creator of new publishing venture “The Domino Project,” Seth Godin, and Amazon announce their inaugural book “Poke the Box” to be published in English worldwide as print, audio and Kindle editions.

In December, international-bestselling author Seth Godin and Amazon announced a new publishing imprint, The Domino Project–the first to use Amazon’s new “Powered by Amazon” publishing program. Now Godin and Amazon are unveiling the first book–written by Godin–from The Domino Project, “Poke the Box,” which will be published worldwide on March 1.

Seth Godin, author and owner of The Domino Project

“We love the idea that The Domino Project’s first book is about the power of initiative and change We think it’s the kind of book you’ll want to share with your co-workers, family, or clients.”

Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content

“Poke the Box” is about producing something that’s scarce, and thus valuable: initiative. It demands that you stop waiting for a road map and start drawing one instead. It’s a call to action – in your job or in your life – to leap, commit, make something happen. Godin knows that the scarcest resource in most organizations (and most careers) is the spark provided by an initiator – the person with the guts to say, “I want to start stuff.” In Godin’s words: “Life is a buzzer box. Poke it.”

Because “The Domino Project” is focused on spreading ideas that can change things for the better, readers will be able to buy 5-packs and 52-packs of the print book at a discounted price to share with friends and colleagues. “Poke the Box” will also be available in a limited deluxe edition which will include the book with a letterpress jacket, a specially designed signature plate signed by Godin, and a letterpress poster. “Poke the Box” is available for sale in print edition via Amazon.com and as an audiobook via Amazon.com and Audible.com, at bookstores nationwide and as an e-book exclusively in the Kindle Store (www.amazon.com/kindlestore).

Godin will guest blog on Amazon’s Omnivoracious and Kindle blogs on Big Ideas You Can Read About. Readers can also sign up for free content and updates about “Poke the Box” and upcoming idea manifestos at http://www.thedominoproject.com/. Included with the updates will be announcements of free Kindle books and updates about other exclusive.

Like all Kindle books, “Poke the Box” is “Buy Once, Read Everywhere”–Kindle customers can purchase it and read it on the $139 third-generation Kindle device with new high-contrast Pearl e-Ink, on iPads, iPod touches, iPhones, Macs, PCs, BlackBerrys, Windows Phones and Android-based devices. Amazon’s Whispersync technology syncs your place across devices, so you can pick up where you left off. With Kindle Worry-Free Archive, books you purchase from the Kindle Store are automatically backed up online in your Kindle library on Amazon, where they can be re-downloaded wirelessly for free, anytime. Powered by Amazon is a brand for titles published by Amazon Content Services LLC.

About Seth Godin

Seth Godin has written 12 books – all bestsellers – that have been translated into more than 30 languages. He has long been a provocative proponent of changing the way books are created and marketed. Godin writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and changing everything. American Way Magazine calls him, “America’s Greatest Marketer,” and his blog is among the most popular in the world written by a single individual. An entrepreneur since the age of 16, he founded Yoyodyne, his first internet company, which was acquired by Yahoo! in 1998. It pioneered the use of ethical direct mail online, something Seth calls Permission Marketing. He was VP of Direct Marketing at Yahoo! for a year. His latest company, Squidoo.com, is ranked among the top 90 sites in the U.S. (by traffic) by Quantcast. It allows anyone to build a page about any topic you’re passionate about. The site raises money for charity and pays royalties to its million plus members.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to break ground and help define what publishing can become. We all know that ideas that spread win, and this publishing house will enable my colleagues and I to create, write and spread ideas that matter. A book that isn’t read doesn’t do anyone any good, and too often, the book publishing industry gets in the way of books reaching people who can benefit from them. Amazon knows what to do to help these books get read.”
