SFWA Remove Amazon Links

The Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) announced late yesterday that it was removing all links to Amazon on its website in light of the recent Macmillan dispute. Amazon removed the buy buttons from all Macmillan titles last Saturday following Macmillan’s presentation of new e-book terms to the e-tailer last week. Amazon sell most of their Kindle e-books at the $9.99 price point, but Macmillan’s wants the list of e-books priced between $12.99 and $14.99.

“Due to Amazon.com’s removal of many of our authors’ books from its ordering system, we are removing Amazon.com links from our website. Our authors depend on people buying their books and since a significant percentage of them publish through Macmillan or its subsidiaries, we would prefer to send traffic to stores where the books can actually be purchased.

To that end, our volunteers are in the process of redirecting book links to indiebound.org, Powell’s, Barnes and Noble, and Borders.

Many authors are being hit hard by this, so we encourage you to seek out new places to find their books.”
The SFWA will only leave links on its website to Amazon if they are the sole source of purchase for an author’s book.
