Collier and Dewji Take Honours at Women in Publishing UK Awards

Late last week the Women in Publishing UK Awards were held at the Savoy Tup Function Room in London. The two deserving recipients were Suzanne Collier of, winning the Pandora Award, and Leila Dewji of Acorn Independent Press, who won the New Venture Award.
Speaking to The Bookseller last week, Collier said:

“Winning the Pandora award is such a great honour. As a young girl in publishing, and through the years, I have stood at the WIP awards, and watched as many great names in publishing, such as Carmen Callil and Judy Piatkus have been awarded this prize. To know that my name is added to that list means more to me than any words can say.”

Leila Dewji was equally delighted having launched Acorn Independent Press with her brother over a year ago:

“This has been a crazy year, we’ve worked very hard to get Acorn off the ground. When you start a new business you never quite know how your first year is going to go, especially in an emerging market, but we’ve had lots of lovely surprises and built relationships with some amazing authors and agents alike. This is the perfect way to round off our first year. 2012 promises to be just as exciting but I’m looking forward to a family Christmas with my sales & marketing director (and brother) Ali Dewji.”
